Brothers Eli and Rafael Duvenyaz bought a manufacturing facility in Sefakoy in 1973. Once the family began to produce both raw materials and packaging, the Korozo name became well established. Today, Korozo is Turkey's leading packaging manufacturer.
Korozo was founded in 1934 as a button factory by the brothers Rıfat and Eli Düvenyaz. Korozo is a tree species native to Africa and its nut-like fruit. The world's hardest button was made from its shell.
In 1968, Korozo button factory established a small packaging facility with the new packaging trend. It packaged the buttons he produced in this facility. By the 1970s, the synthetic and plastic trend had begun in the world. The buttons also turned into plastic in this process. Gradually, the original use was pushed aside and the apparel switched to the button.
Korozo made a decision in 1973 and quit the button business. It closed his facilities. It decided to continue its adventure, which started with packaging buttons, in the packaging industry. Packaging is a young and dynamic industry. You produce solutions according to the wishes of each company. Starting in 1973, Korozo also focused on this work. First, plastic shopping bags were produced. Plastic wrapping papers followed soon after. These papers were mostly used to cover school notebooks at that time. Colorful plastic containers became the trend instead of quickly tearing paper container papers. Due to its durability, the demand was very high.
Korozo started the production of plastic garbage bags for the first time in Turkey in the 1980s. Turning to export in the 1990s, Korozo Ambalaj first entered the former Soviet geography and increased its flexible packaging investments. The company, which realized the first industrial type stretch film production in Turkey in 1990, further increased its production capacity with the new factory it established in Beylikdüzü. With the new cutting, printing and laminating machines used in this factory, it has accelerated the production of flexible packaging in our country. In 1994, it became the first company to have ISO 9001 certificate in the packaging industry. In 1997, it started to produce food stretch, aluminum foil and ziplock bags.
Another important turning point in the history of the company took place in 2001. By purchasing Saf Plastik from the world-famous Huhtamaki brand, Korozo Ambalaj increased its production power in the field of plastic packaging. One year later, it opened its first office in Germany and entered the European market. It entered the British market as a result of the partnership established with Korsini-Saf in 2004. The growth in the European market continued with the office opened in France in 2008. In 2010, the world-renowned packaging company Viscofan became the representative. The company, which established new factories in Çerkezköy and Esenyurt in 2014, strengthened its production capacity with the factory it opened in Çorlu 2 years later.
What does the name Korozo mean?
The name Korozo comes from a tree that grows in Africa and from the peel of its fruit the world's highest quality buttons are produced.
