She was born on April 26, 1977 in Milan.

After graduating from high school in 1996, she studied in the USA as an exchange student for one year.

She graduated from the Technical University of Munich in 2001 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

She worked on an experimental aerodynamics project for four months at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l' Aéronautique et de l' Espace in France.

She prepared her master's thesis on solid rocket fuels at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technologies in Moscow.

As part of her training at the Italian Air Force Academy, she graduated from the Federico II University of Naples with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical sciences. She graduated from the academy in 2005 by winning the highest honor, the Sword of Honor.
