Who invented the tie?

Croats famous for their creativity, King of France XIV. In order to distinguish themselves from other troops in the cavalry unit that Louis formed from mercenaries, they invented the tie.

The tie has been an indispensable part of a stylish men's outfit since the 17th century. Although it has undergone minor changes from time to time, few know that its creator was Croatian. As a word, it means Croatian. In the 1630s, the then King of France XIV. Louis established a Croatian cavalry unit made up of mercenaries. The soldiers of this unit also begin to tie a scarf around their necks to distinguish themselves from other units.

A necktie, or simply a tie, is a piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat, and often draped down the chest. Variants include the ascot, bow, bolo, zipper tie, cravat, and knit. The modern necktie, ascot, and bow tie are descended from the cravat. Neckties are generally unsized but may be available in a longer size.

When the people saw the soldiers carrying scarves tied around their necks, they could easily understand that they were "Croate", that is, Croats. As time goes on, the word "Croate" turns into "Cravate" and becomes a common symbol of elegance that non-Croats also tie around their necks.

EUROPE'S FASHION CURRENCY

The end of the period in European history known as the Thirty Years' War was something of a rebirth for humans. People started to create new fashions, have fun and decorate in order to enjoy life again.

In 1635, the Croatian Regiment, which participated as a mercenary in the Thirty Years' War, comes to France...

CROATIAN SOLDIERS CREATE FASHION

Here, Europe met the Croatian soldiers who made their neckties an ornament in those years. Neckties made of coarse cloth of low-ranking soldiers had almost become a sign of rank among officers. Moreover, these ties were woven from ostentatious expensive fabrics such as silk and muslin.

The tie of the Croatian soldiers next to France was nothing but an attempt to beautify the military outfit. Soldiers of the Croatian Regiment wore neckties that hung down in tassels or joined with a badge at the ends, after wrapping the neck around the neck to separate themselves.

THE KING CREATES THE REGION

XIV. Louis was very interested in adorning his clothes, wandering like a peacock with its tail open. When he saw the procession and handkerchiefs, he said "I would like it too". Who could say no to Louis? The king wore it first, then gave his entire contingent fancy handkerchiefs to wear around their necks.

This passion of the king caused the Croatian soldiers to turn their neckties into the symbol of the French Monarchy.
