Ahed Tamimi (born 31 January 2001) is a Palestinian activist from the village of Nabi Salih in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. She is best known for appearances in images and videos in which she confronts Israeli soldiers, and has been hailed by pro-Palestinian activists as a symbol of Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation.
Later, on December 19, 2017, she was detained by Israeli authorities for slapping a soldier. The incident was filmed and went viral, and her detention was extended 6 times. Tamimi, who was accused of 12 different crimes, was tried in a military court in Israel approximately 3 months later and was sentenced to 8 months in prison. While Amnesty International called for her release, she was compared to Rosa Parks, the symbol of American black people. She was released on July 29, 2018.
On April 4, 2018, a video of Tamimi being harassed and threatened by two Israeli officers interrogating her was published. Tamimi filed a lawsuit against these people.
