Russian chess player. He was born on November 1, 1892, in Moscow as the second son of a wealthy family. After completing his law education and becoming a doctor of law, he entered the state service and worked as a high legal consultant.

Alexander Aleksandrovich Alekhine (October 311892 – March 24, 1946) was a Russian and French chess player and the fourth World Chess Champion, a title he held for two reigns.
He was the world's fourth and sixth chess champion, respectively, for a total of 17 years between 1927-1935 and 1937-1946. He died of a heart attack on March 24, 1946, in a modest hotel room in Estoril, near Lisbon, on his way to London to defend his world title against Russian champion Botvinnik.
Alehin became the world champion for the first time in the match held in Buenos Aires in 1927. He defeated Jose Raul Capablanca, who held the championship between 1921-1927 and was known as "invincible", with 6 wins, 3 defeats, and 25 draws in a 34-party match lasting 2.5 months. In 1935, he lost the world title to Dutch grandmaster Max Euwe with 8 wins, 9 defeats, and 13 draws. But two years later he regained his title from the same opponent with 10 wins, 4 defeats, and 11 draws.
During Alehin's chess life, he played a total of 1264 tournaments and match parties, winning 735 of them, losing 127, and drawing 407 of them. He played in 87 tournaments, 62 of which he won first place. He played 23 matches, 5 of which were world champions. He lost only two of them (Nanekarov and Euwe) and the others won.
