Acting career

Watson's acting career began in 1999 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, based on British author JK Rowling's bestselling novel. The role of Harry Potter and supporting roles of Potter's two friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley were very important for their directors. Casting agencies found Watson through her Oxford theater teacher and was impressed by her confidence. Watson had to audition for the role 8 times before the director and producers could decide. And she got the part after eight auditions.

The 2001 release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was Watson's first screen performance. The film surprisingly received worldwide attention, and it didn't take long for Emma Watson to rise to fame. Watson, who did not have an acting background before, was first known in the world for the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films. And while critics praised the three main actors in the film, they mostly also praised Watson's performance. Watson was nominated for five awards for her performance in Philosopher's Stone and won the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress.

A year later, Watson returned to the camera with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second film in the series. Watson received the Best Female Actress award at the Otto Awards organized by the German Die Welt magazine.

In 2004, the movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released. Despite being the lowest-grossing Harry Potter film as of January 2008, it was Watson's most successful film. And it brought Watson two Otto and one Total Film awards.

Then, the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) was released. Then, the fifth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was released in 2007. The film was a huge financial success and broke records worldwide. Watson won her first National Movie Award for Best Actress. And the last movie in the series was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which was released in 2009. The sequel to this serial film was an event that connected audiences to the series as the actors grew up and matured.

Watson's first film outside of the Potter films was the 2007 TV movie Ballet Shoes. She played the role of Pauline Fossil. Watson's acting was praised by The Daily Telegraph, although the film was not generally appreciated. In March 2009, she was ranked 6th on Forbes magazine's "Most Valuable Young Stars" list. She was named Hollywood's highest-paid female star in February 2010, earning nearly £19m in 2009.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final installment in the Harry Potter series, has been split into two films shot in a row. The highest-grossing film in the series also proved to be Watson's most commercially successful film to date.

He played the character of Sam in the movie "The Benefits of Being a Pot", which was released in 2012. While the film received full marks from the audience, Watson became one of the prominent names of the film along with Logan Lerman. The famous actress, known for being quiet and shy, last appeared in the role of Ila in the movie "Noah: The Great Flood" released in 2014.

After appearing in many films and successful after the Harry Potter series, Watson announced in February 2016 that she was taking a one year hiatus from acting. She planned to devote her time to "personal development" and women's rights work.

Watson starred as Belle in the 2017 live action Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, directed by Bill Condon and starring as the Beast opposite Dan Stevens. The movie received positive reviews. “When I finished the movie, I felt like I had transitioned to being a woman on screen,” Watson later said.

The producers wanted to delight fans of the Harry Potter movie series, which have been loved and remembered for years. Watson reunited with several cast members of the Harry Potter film series for an HBO Max special called Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts in 2022.
