The most upset hero of one of the biggest political scandals of the 90s in the USA: Who is Monica Lewinsky?

When Monica Lewinsky moved to Washington in June 1995, she never knew she was making a life-changing decision. She was only 21 years old, she had just graduated from university. Through an acquaintance, she started an unpaid internship in the office of Leon Panetta, then-US President Bill Clinton's private secretary.

However, in just 3 years, she became one of the people known throughout the USA and even the whole world. Because shortly after she started her internship, she started an emotional and sexual relationship with President Clinton.

Monica Samille Lewinsky (born July 23, 1973, in San Francisco, California) is a Russian-Jewish-American activist, television personality, fashion designer, and former White House intern.

President Bill Clinton admitted to having an affair with Lewinsky while he was working in the White House between 1995 and 1996. This affair and its consequences (including Clinton's impeachment) were later referred to as the Clinton-Lewinsky sex scandal.

Monica Samille Lewinsky (born July 23, 1973) is an American activist and writer. A former White House intern, Lewinsky gained international celebrity status in the late 1990s as a result of the public coverage of a political scandal when U.S. President Bill Clinton admitted to having an affair with her during her days as an intern between 1995 and 1997. The affair, and its repercussions (which included Clinton's impeachment), became known later as the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal.

As a result of the publicity of the political scandal, Lewinsky gained international celebrity status. She later pursued various ventures, including designing a line of self-titled bags, becoming an advertising spokesperson for a diet plan, and working as a television personality. After 1999, she entered the handbag business, which she produced under her own name, but left this business in 2005. Lewinsky then decided to seek public attention with the aim of pursuing a master's degree in psychology in London.

Lewinsky's relationship with the president, who completed her master's degree at the London School of Economics in 2006, was described in the book "Monica's Story", written by Andrew Morton with the contributions of Monica Lewinsky and her family, after the scandal broke out.

NOW SHE IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT PERSON

Lewinsky, who started a campaign to help those who were bullied and those in need in 2014, is now an activist.

50-year-old Lewinksy has now appeared in front of the camera for the "You've Got the Power" campaign of the brand Reformation.

SHE CALLED "VOTE"

Emphasizing the importance of women's power and voting in the campaign, Lewinsky said, "Wearing a strong combination will not create a better unity, but going and voting may be a good start to do this."

CLINTON–LEWINSKY SCANDAL

The incident, also known as the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, occupied the world agenda for a long time.

The relationship between United States President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky began in 1995. Clinton was 49 at the time and Lewinsky was 22.

It is known that the relationship between the two lasted 18 months. Clinton initially denied the affair allegations, but in her 1998 deposition, he admitted to having an "inappropriate physical relationship" with Lewinsky and reiterated that what she did was "inappropriate."

In an interview she gave in 2023, Lewinsky said, "A lot of time has passed since 1998. It has been 25 years. I am happy. I am happy with where I am."

Speaking at TED Talk in 2015, Lewinsky said, "Overnight, I went from being unknown to someone publicly despised."

Who is who?

Bill Clinton: 42nd President of the USA. Clinton, a member of the Democratic Party, became president in 1993 and continued in this position for two terms until 2001. Clinton's wife, Hillary Clinton, who previously served as Governor of Arkansas for two terms, is also a famous politician. Hillary Clinton previously served as secretary of state. He was one of the presidential candidates of the Democratic Party in the last elections.

Bill Clinton said in his sworn statement in the lawsuit filed for allegedly harassing a woman in the early 90s that he never had a relationship with Lewinsky. It was revealed that this was a lie a few months later, and the President, who was understood to have given false testimony, which is a major crime in US law, was impeached by the US House of Representatives in 1998 after the scandal broke out. However, he continued his presidency.

Monica Lewinsky: Former White House intern and staffer. In 1995, she began her internship in the office of the President's Private Secretary at the White House. She then moved to the Public Relations Office. She was transferred from here to the Pentagon in 1996. It was later learned that this change of duty was due to his closeness with Clinton. It turned out that she also gave false testimony in Clinton's harassment case.

Linda Tripp: A Pentagon Public Affairs Office employee who served during both the Bush and Clinton administrations is a close friend of Lewinsky. Despite the 24-year age difference between them, Lewinsky shared all the details of her relationship with Clinton with Tripp and received advice from him on many issues. However, she did not know that Tripp was recording all her phone calls and collecting evidence against Clinton. It was Tripp who revealed that Lewinsky had given false testimony about Clinton and who advised Lewinsky not to wash the clothes that were said to have traces of sperm on them. "Do you want to say anything else?" Lewinsky testified before the grand jury. She answered the question, "I hate Linda Tripp."

Kenneth Starr: Special prosecutor investigating Whitewater, a failed real estate venture in Arkansas. The Clintons also invested money in Whitewater in the late 70s, and their names were mentioned first as witnesses and then as suspects in the relevant investigation. Republican Starr's authority was later expanded to investigate the Clinton-Lewinsky affair.

Paula Jones: The woman who filed a lawsuit against Clinton in 1994, alleging that he harassed her in a hotel room in Arkansas in May 1991. The sworn statements taken by Jones' lawyers also formed the basis of the Lewinsky scandal. The revelation that Clinton lied in her statement sparked the process that led to her impeachment. An unnamed source whispered to the conservative lawyers defending Jones to question Lewinsky as well.
