Philipp Patrick Hannes Plein (born 16 February 1978) is a German fashion designer, and the founder of the Philipp Plein International Group, which includes the Philipp Plein, Plein Sport, and Billionaire brands.

Not wanting to waste any materials, Plein started making bags and accessories from the leftover leather, which he sold alongside his furniture and fairs. In 2003, when he was asked to design a hall for a famous brand for a German trade fair, he designed and sold signature skull jackets adorned with crystal stones. It generated over 100,000 euros in revenue in one day and thus, a year later, the fashion brand was born.

Plein now has stores worldwide. They recently released a sunglasses collection. In the new season, where we will see Philipp Plein's signature use of crystal stones in sunglasses, oversized models stand out the most.

What's it like to chat with one of the fashion industry's most rebellious designers? Let's have a little chat:

WHO DO YOU DO YOUR FASHION SHOWS FOR?

"I always try to please my customers because they are the ones who provide my income, they are the reason we exist. And with each new season, we have more customers, and the fashion shows become crowded, even excessive. This is a way of saying thank you. The logic of the fashion show should now be questioned. In the past, these fashion shows There was a reason for doing this; we were sharing with the media what we did this season and what we will do next season. But now we can publish our new collections on the internet, social media, or even on Weibo, or WeChat. For this reason, we should come together and think, "We have to find other ways instead of holding a fashion show."

DOES FASHION HAVE A NATURE?

"Trying to create a new brand among the mega brands in the industry is extremely difficult these days. We are a small, independent fashion brand fighting the 40 trillion dollar monsters. They have more money to advertise, to showcase their products, to open stores. We are trying to do the best we can." "We have to, almost like Robin Hood. You always have to fight against the people around you who try to take your place."

WHY ARE YOU AN ARGUMENTATIVE?

"Let's get this straight: I'm not a politician. I don't own an investment company or anything like that. So I don't have to pay attention to anything; I don't have to accept someone telling me what to do and what not to do. When you ask me a question, I always tell you what I think and what I think." I tell the truth. I'm not trying to be politically correct. I don't mean to hurt anyone or talk about anyone, but there are so many stupid things in this industry and people don't even bother talking about them.

When I entered the industry, I was never welcomed. They didn't invite me to Milan Fashion Week or anything, so I had to fight for everything. Therefore, I know the truth well and when you ask me for my opinion, I give my opinion. I know what people think about someone who argues all the time, 'How can you say that!' they say. If everyone knows it's true, why shouldn't I say it? But most people can't say it. "I'm just describing things that happened, my way of seeing them, which isn't necessarily true."
