Canadian singer and songwriter known for his social video app: Who is Shawn Mendes?

Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8, 1998 in Toronto Ontario Canada. He was born the son of his mother Karen of England and his father Manuel Mendes of Portugal. His mother is a real estate agent and his father is a Toronto bar and restaurant supply businessman. Mendes graduated from Pine Ridge Middle School in June 2016. He played ice hockey and football here. He joined the glee club in high school and practiced his stage presence in his acting classes. He also auditioned for Disney Channel in Toronto.

It was discovered thanks to the social video app Vine. Mendes began attracting viewers in 2013 by posting a cover of Justin Bieber's song "As Long as You Love Me" on Vine. Then, within a few months, he gained millions of views and followers. He became known for his six-second renditions of many popular songs.

Artist manager Andrew Gertler discovered Mendes online in November 2013. In April, he won Ryan Seacrest's "Best Cover Song" contest for "Say Something" by A Great Big World. He released his first single "Life of the Party" on June 26, 2014. He became the youngest person to enter the top 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mendes toured as a member of the Magcon Tour along with other young Viners who have a large following on social media.

He released his first major label EP in July. The EP debuted and peaked at number five on the Billboard 200. He won the Teen Choice Award for Webstar in Music in 2014. On September 5, 2014, "Oh Cecilia" featuring Mendes was released as the fifth single from The Vamps' debut album. "Something Big" was released as the second single on November 6, 2014.

On April 14, 2015, Mendes released his full-length album, Handwriting. Mendes later became the youngest artist to debut at number one since the release of Justin Bieber's My World 2.0. Also in 2015, Mendes opened for Taylor Swift on the 1989 World Tour dates for North America and recorded the song "Believe" for the soundtrack of the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants. Mendes was named one of Time's "25 Most Influential Teens of 2014".

On January 21, 2016, Mendes made his acting debut at the season three premiere of The CW's The 100. He then headlined his second world tour, the Shawn Mendes World Tour, which began in March 2016 and announced 38 shows in North America and Europe.

Mendes released "Treat You Better", the lead single from his second studio album, in June 2016. The Illuminate album was released on September 23, 2016. It topped the charts in Canada and became his second number one album in her home country. "Mercy" was released as the second single on August 18, 2016.

In April 2017, Mendes embarked on the Illuminate World Tour in arenas around the world, including the Staples Center in Los Angeles and The O2 Arena in London. In November 2017, Mendes became the first artist to have three number one songs on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart before turning 20. This has been an unprecedented success since the list's inception over 50 years ago.

Mendes was named Time's 30 Most Influential Teens of 2016 and was featured on Forbes' 30 Under 30 2016: Music for the first time. On March 22, 2018, Mendes released the lead single "In My Blood" from his upcoming third studio album, followed by the second single "Lost in Japan" on March 23.

On April 21, 2018, he performed at a televised concert commemorating Queen II Elizabeth's 92nd birthday. He performed his latest single at the iHeartRadio MMVAs in Canada on August 27, where it earned eight nominations and four awards.

Mendes and the Zac Brown Band appeared on an episode of the American TV show CMT Crossroads, which paired a country musician with a musician from another genre. The episode aired on October 24 and was recorded a month ahead of its scheduled release date. On November 1, Mendes was announced as one of the musical artists of the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which was recorded in New York in November and aired in December.

On September 30, 2020, Mendes announced that his fourth studio album, Wonder, would be released on December 4, along with the album's lead single, "Wonder", on October 2. 

On October 13, Mendes announced the making of a documentary called Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, which chronicles the last few years of his life. The documentary was released on Netflix on November 23. On December 7, Mendes had an interview with Matthew McConaughey and performed the song "Dream" for the first time on television while appearing on The Late Late Show.

On August 20, 2021, Mendes released "Summer of Love" with Tainy. That same month, it was announced that Mendes would serve as executive producer for the TV adaptation of Square Enix's video game Life Is Strange, through production company Persistent Content.

On September 23, 2021, Mendes announced that he would begin his Wonder: The World Tour across North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe, spanning 64 dates, starting on March 14, 2022, at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. He performed seven shows before being delayed by three weeks due to mental health. He eventually canceled the remaining eighty scheduled shows. Mendes has stated that he will continue to make music and hopes to tour again.

On November 30, 2021, Mendes announced that his new single "It'll Be Okay" will be released on December 1.
