Before wrestling, he played professional American football for many years. He first started his football career with the Minnesota Vikings, one of the National Football teams, and then transferred to the Jacksonville Jaguars team. In 2008, he played for the Edmonton Eskimos, one of the Canadian Football teams, for 1 year and ended his career.
Starting his professional wrestling career, Anoaʻi announced in 2010 that he had signed a contract with WWE. Using the ring name Roman Reigns, he made his main roster debut in November 2012 with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, forming the group The Shield. A two-time WWE World Heavyweight Championship and a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion (with Rollins), Reigns won the Royal Rumble 2015 and was named Superstar of the Year in 2014. He also broke the record by eliminating four people in a Survivor Series match at Survivor Series 2013. He improved his record by eliminating 12 people in the Royal Rumble 2014 match.
In 2014, he married model Galina Becker (born 1987). The couple, who lived together before marriage, has a daughter named Joelle Anoa'i, born in 2008.
