Andy Jassy was a member of Jeff Bezos' elite leadership group, the "S-team." Jassy, a Harvard Business School graduate, started working at Amazon in 1997 and founded Amazon Network Services (AWS) and turned it into a cloud platform used by millions of people. Known for his mastery of technical details, Jassy's appointment to this position was considered an indication of the importance Amazon attaches to internet services.
Andrew R. Jassy (born January 13, 1968) is an American business executive who is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Amazon. Before being appointed by Jeff Bezos and the Amazon board during the fourth quarter of 2020, Jassy served as the SVP and later as the CEO of Amazon Web Services from 2003 to 2021.
Born in New York in 1967, Andy Jassy studied at Scarsdale High School and graduated in 1986. Jassy, who completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, graduated from the Department of Economics in 1997. That same year, Andy Jessy, who soon started working at Amazon, became one of the company's first employees. After working for a while, Jessy changed positions within the company and was assigned by Jeff Bezos to research cloud technologies.
He founded AWS in 2003 with a team of 57 people. Jassy was promoted from senior vice president to CEO of AWS in April 2016. He earned $36.6 million in 2016. Jassy was known for being outspoken in his criticism of AWS rival Oracle.
