His life, which began in wealth, was turned upside down at the age of 9: Now CEO of Uber

Brief summary of the story: When Dara was 9 years old, the Islamic revolution took place in Iran. The new regime didn't not like the wealthy Khosrowshahi family very much. The family was forced to leave the country. First they went to France and then to New York to Dara's uncle.

Born on May 28, 1969 in Tehran, Iran, Dara Khosrowshahi was announced as the CEO of Uber in August 2017.

Dara Khosrowshahi was born into one of Iran's prominent families.

But his life, which began in wealth, was suddenly turned upside down when the government seized the family business during the Iranian Revolution. Dara's family settled in a town 40 kilometers from Manhattan. Because of his young age, he got used to life in the USA without difficulty. Meanwhile, while the family immigrated to the USA, Dara's uncle Hassan Khosrowshahi also went to Canada and opened an electronics store there. Hassan Khosrowshahi later sold his company to Best Buy and formed a holding.

It is hardly a coincidence that Dara Khosrowshahi is successful in business. Because there are many names in his family who shine in the business world. For example; His brother Kaveh Khosrowshahi is also a director of a bank. In addition; He also has cousins who are executives at Google.

His father, who returned to Iran for his grandfather when Dara was 13, could not leave there for 6 years.

Khosrowshahi studied electrical engineering at Brown University and began his career in finance and worked for Allen & Co in the 1990s. The successful name, who then switched to USA Networks, came under the patronage of the owner of the company, Barry Diller. In 2001, Diller and Khosrowshahi bought Expedia for $1.3 billion.

USA Networks, renamed InterActive Corp (IAC), made Expedia a separate company, naming Diller as president and Dara as CEO. And over the years, Expedia has become the largest company in the United States. Khosrowshahi married Sydney Shapiro in 2012 in Las Vegas and had 4 children.

Khosrowshahi was often critical of Donald Trump during his presidency.
