In 1976, after receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in electronic engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Shih founded Multitech with his wife Carolyn Yeh and five partners. In 1976, he joined Acer as general manager. He served in that position for closed to 15 years. In 1989, he ascended to the chairmanship of Acer Group. Shih has been recognized worldwide for his talents as a manger and entrepreneur.
