Name father of super yachts: Who is Brandon Walder?
Viennese consultant Brandon Walder advises super billionaires on naming their superyachts.
While it's not uncommon for sailors to name their boats after the gods in hopes of protecting their ships, it's important for many yacht owners to find a meaningful name for their million-dollar boat, in which they invest a significant portion of their personal fortune. An example of this is that English football star David Beckham named his boat "Seven" (Seven), his jersey number for Manchester United. Another example is that Russian President Vladimir Putin named his boat "Graceful" under the name "Kosatka", which means killer whale.
Viennese businessman Brandon Walder is a business intelligence who saw this "urgent" need of billionaires and created himself a "name consultant for yachts" position. Walder, creative director of brand consultancy Ferras, helps billionaires name their new yachts. According to the news of AirMail, the service, which started in 2014 when one of the company's former customers applied to Ferras to name his yacht, today reaches many customers, mostly European. “We don't name yachts,” Walder advises. We name the feeling the owner feels towards his yacht,” he says. He says the firm initially offered its clients current yacht names to gauge their taste, and gradually they developed a shared understanding of what they were up to. Although he names Giorgio Armani's "Main" and Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich's "Eclipse" as his favorite yacht names, he does not share the service's cost and the customers' names. He argues that renaming a boat or choosing a seven-letter boat name that starts with an M or ends with an A is bad luck.
