When was the first video call in history made?
Video calling platforms such as Skype and Hangouts have taken an important place in our lives. However, the history of the first video call goes way back.
The current AT&T operator, then called Bell, had invented the first video calling technology in history in 1964. Video calling, which was provided over the infrastructure where the operator provided telephone service, not over the internet as it is now, was a revolution in those years.
Introduced at the World's Fair held in New York on April 20, 1964, the video calling system consisted of a camera and a screen. Inside a cabin, visitors could video call an official at Disneyland, California, for 15 minutes.
The service was transmitting in black and white at 30 frames per second and users had to stand still in front of the camera. 6 of this system, called Picturephone, were on display at the fair.
