The unknowns of Depeche Mode's story, which made the digitalization revolution in music?

They continue to live, even after years and circumstances change. They also revolutionized the history of music, led to a paradigm shift in music. Like Johan Sebastian Bach, like Ludwig van Beethoven… like John Lee Hooker, like Muddy Waters… like Oscar Peterson, like Miles Davis… like The Beatles, like Jimi Hendrix, like Pink Flyod… like The Police, like The Cure, like Radiohead…

Depeche Mode is one of the music groups in this category. British electronic-alternative rock-soul band Depeche Mode, founded in 1980 and surviving uninterruptedly...

They were formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980, a year later their debut album arrived. Black Celebration, which they released in 1986, is an album that brought them serious success in the world charts and can be described as a turning point. After this album, Music for the Masses came and events developed... While creating its unique style, Depeche Mode has always benefited from the blessings of synthesizer and computer technologies, starting from the '80s.

Depeche Mode has released a total of 14 albums throughout their career, the last of which Spirit came last 2017. They sounded like Where's The Revolution these days when the world is getting more and more chaotic. The album is proof that they are not behind the times, Martin Gore is still a great composer and Dave Gahan is one of the best performers of our time.

It was only natural that Depeche Mode turned our musical paradigms upside down in the early 1980s. Because the majority of people who followed the music made in England and America until that date were listening to either classic rock or pop. It was as if there was no opening other than that. Alternative expansions in those years were a few bands like The Police, The Cure and Depeche Mode. Of course, there were punk-rock bands like the Sex Pistols that came out before.

Depeche Mode synthesized rock and soul music with electronic music, leading to the emergence of a completely different type of music. As a matter of fact, Depeche Mode was in the "New Wave" category in those years. Listening to Depeche Mode may be a common experience for most people today, but that kind of music was brand new back then. The electronic music frenzy of the 1990s had not yet begun. There were few bands that made electronic contributions to classic rock music like Pink Floyd or purely electronic music like Kraftwerk, but electronic music like Depeche Mode was this good and deep with melody, sadness, romance, love, passion, instinct, depression, pain, hope, rebellion. There was no cohesive group.

Depeche Mode is a band that makes real art; they really have an artistic spirit.

As a matter of fact, it is not in vain that the famous British music magazine "Q" declared Depeche Mode both the most popular electronic music group in the world and one of the 50 music groups that changed the world years later. It is not an easy thing to be in the top 50 in terms of revolutionism and innovation among thousands of music groups.

Depeche Mode has three members who haven't changed since the early 1980s: Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and Andy Fletcher. Dave Gahan on vocals, Martin Gore on guitar and keyboards, Andy Fletcher on keyboards. Most of the compositions are made by Martin Gore, he also occasionally takes part in vocals. Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher also occasionally contribute to the compositions.

Depeche Mode's audience is unlike any other in the world. For Depeche Mode listeners and fans, Depeche Mode is a legendary band, Depeche Mode is a way of life, Depeche Mode is an almost adored phenomenon. It's hard to find an audience that is so deeply and passionately committed to a band. The only audience comparable to Depeche Mode's audience might be The Cure. Although The Cure makes a different kind of music, focuses more on electric guitars, and has more of a punk-rock influence, in another sense it is on a parallel track with Depeche Mode. Maybe this is due to the fact that the phenomena of melody, sadness, romance, love, passion, instinct, depression, pain, hope, rebellion are expressed sincerely, deeply and sincerely in The Cure, just like in Depeche Mode.

Depeche Mode is a band that has been producing since 1981, and Depeche Mode has never made "market music", it has not been beaten by the market, it has not fallen into the market, it has not compromised on its quality. Depeche Mode has continuously improved its music, but it has never broken its basic backbone, it has never broken the integrity within itself. “Speak and Spell” in 1981, “A Broken Frame” in 1982, “Construction Time Again” in 1983, “Some Great Reward” in 1984, “Black Celebration” in 1986, “Music for the Masses”, “Violator” in 1990, “Songs of Faith and Devotion” in 1993, “Ultra” in 1997, “Exciter” in 2001, “Playing the Angel” in 2005, “Sounds” in 2009 of the Universe”, they released their album “Delta Machine” in 2013.

Some of his unforgettable songs are as follows: “New Life”, “Just Can't Get Enough”, “See You”, “The Meaning of Love”, “Leave in Silence”, “Get the Balance Right”, “Everything Counts”, “Master and Servant”, “Blasphemous Rumors”, “Stripped”, “A Question of Lust”, “A Question of Time”, “Strangelove”, “Never Let Me Down Again”, “Behind the Wheel”, “Little 15 ”, “Personal Jesus”, “Enjoy the Silence”, “Policy of Truth”, “World In My Eyes”, “I Feel You”, “Walking in my Shoes”, “Condemnation”, “In Your Room”, “ Its No Good”, “Useless”, “Only When I Loose Myself”, “Dream On”, “I Feel Loved”, “Free Love”, “Goodnight Lovers”, “Precious”, “A Pain That I am Used To” ”, “Suffer Well”, “The Darkest Star”, “John the Revelator”, “Lillian”, “Wrong”, “Peace”, “Fragile Tension”, “Hole to Feed”, “Heaven”, “Soothe My Soul “…

By the way, another interesting point: Depeche Mode is one of the rare western bands that performed in Eastern Bloc countries during the "Cold War" period. At a time when tensions between the USA and the USSR, NATO and the Warsaw Pact were at their peak, Depeche Mode gave concerts in Budapest and Warsaw in 1985 and in East Germany in 1988. It is also interesting that Depeche Mode, whose albums have sold over 100 million copies and gave hundreds of concerts in all major cities of Europe and the USA, tried to open up to Eastern Europe during the "Cold War" period. Perhaps, this was a normal and necessary opening for Depeche Mode, which made an anti-capitalist piece like “Everything Counts” along with many songs on love, passion and pain.

What does Depeche Mode mean?

It means fast fashion in French.
