Who hosted Hip Hop's birthday?
The first Hip Hop Music samples emerged 50 years ago. This music, which was only on the agenda of a very small group at that time, is now the locomotive of popular culture all over the world.
Jay-Z's lyrics are displayed on the facade of the Brooklyn Library. The leading figures of rap music organize concerts at New York Yankee Stadium.
Although the date is not exact, music historians believe that Hip Hop was born on August 11, 1973.
This is the first time this type of music is performed at a house party in the Bronx neighborhood of New York. Bronx DJ Kool Herc and his sister threw a party at 1520 Sedgwick Boulevard. There were rooms in the basements of some buildings where parties could be held. All kinds of events could be held here, from anniversary celebrations to birthday celebrations.
Clive Campbell (born April 16, 1955), better known by his stage name DJ Kool Herc, is a Jamaican American DJ who is a pioneer of hip hop music in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. Nicknamed the Father of Hip-Hop, Campbell began playing hard funk records of the sort typified by James Brown.
For many Bronx residents, these parties were the meeting point for everyone in these days of widespread nationwide economic turmoil, especially severe in New York. So Hip Hop was a way to relieve stress.
Over time, Hip Hop has also changed. Different styles and different approaches came into play. The rebellion of the oppressed class in the early days diminished in later periods. Current rappers mostly emphasize their current wealth by referring to their old times.
The classic DJ-MC live performance eventually helped Rap become commercialized and achieve great success.
But even as Hip Hop's stories evolved, they continued to be grounded in experiences of injustice and inequality.
In the 2000s, rappers such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Cardi B, Drake, and Nicki Minaj scored big hits.
Eventually, hip-hop became simultaneously a lifestyle, culture, and genre in its own right.
Although hip-hop is now more of a global influence than a musical genre, many say it still best reflects its birthplace, New York.
