His star shone with the movie "The Pianist": Who is Adrien Brody?
He prepared for the role for months, lost 29 kilos, gave up his house and his car even broke up with his girlfriend. Details about the life of famous American actor Adrien Brody...
Adrien Brody was born on April 14, 1973 in Woodhaven, Queens, New York. His father is Elliot Brody, a history professor and painter, and his mother is the famous photojournalist Sylvia Plachy. He got used to being comfortable in front of the camera by frequently taking part in the photos his mother took. And Brody, who had set his mind to be an actor from a young age, would perform magic shows at the birthday parties of his friends at the age of 12 under the name "The Amazing Adrien".
This talent caught the attention of his mother, who was watching him, so it was decided to study acting. First, he participated in weekend programs organized for children at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He then studied acting at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York.
He appeared in some Broadway productions in the 1980s and briefly in the TV series Annie McGuire with Mary Tyler Moore. Brody had a small role in Woody Allen's 1989 film New York Stories. He then appeared before the audience in the 1993 Steven Soderbergh movie King of the Hill.
Brody, who was too brave, had his nose broken several times as a result of his little stunts on the walls. It took a long time for the American actor to recover from a motorcycle accident in 1992, who was seriously injured by flying over a car and crashing into the asphalt again, breaking his nose.
He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his role in the 1998 movie Restaurant. He received rave reviews for his role in the 1998 Terrence Malick film The Thin Red Line. Later becoming a well-known face with the Spike Lee movie Summer of Sam in 1999 and Bread & Roses in 2000, Brody became an internationally considered actor.
The movie that brought the American actor worldwide fame and many awards was Roman Polanski's 2002 movie The Pianist. Brody pulled back for months to prepare for the role, giving up his house and his car. Likewise, Brody, who lost 13 kilos for this role, learned to play Chopin on the piano and even broke up with his then girlfriend. This role earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Thus, at the age of twenty nine, he became the youngest ever actor to win the award, and to date the only winner under the age of thirty. He won a César Award for his acting performance. And in 2002, he won the best actor Oscar.
After The Pianist, Brody acted in four very different movies. In Dummy (2003), he played Steven Schoichet, a socially awkward, enthusiastic ventriloquist who pursues a love interest. He learned ventriloquism and puppetry for the role, all the voice acting and puppet manipulation convincingly enough to be real-time on set. Brody was named America's best dressed man by Esquire Magazine in 2004.
He played Noah Percy, a mentally retarded teenager, in M. Night Shyamalan's The Village (2004). He then played shocked war veteran Jack Starks in The Jacket (2005). He then played writer Jack Driscoll in the 2005 King Kong version and father to be Peter Whitman in Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited (2007).
King Kong was both critical and box office success. It was Brody's most financially successful film to date. He has also appeared in commercials for Diet Coke and Schweppes and in Tori Amos' "A Sorta Fairytale" music video. In 2010, he played the star role of Royce in the movie Predators directed by Nimród Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez.
He starred as Salvador Dalí in Woody Allen's 2011 Academy Award-winning comedy Midnight in Paris. On January 6, 2012, Brody made his debut as a runway model at the Prada Men Fall/Winter 2012 fashion show. In 2015, he played the role of Tiberius in the Chinese movie Dragon Blade. It also received the Cinema Vanguard award at the San Diego Film Festival the same year.
On August 4, 2017, he received the Leopard Club Award at the Locarno Festival. In 2017, he appeared in the series of the BBC's historical drama "Peaky Blinders". The Leopard Club Award pays homage to an important film personality whose work has made a lasting impression on the collective imagination. It received the Vanguard Award at SCAD's Savannah Film Festival in 2021.
