He was born on May 13, 1986, in Minsk, Soviet Union (now Belarus). He is a Norwegian violinist, singer, songwriter, and actor.
When he was 4 years old, he moved with his family to Norway, where he grew up and lived. Rybak has been playing instruments since the age of 5 and currently plays both the piano and violin. Alexander's mother, Natalia Valentinovna Rybak, whose family is also an artist, is a famous pianist.
His father, Igor Alexandrovich Rybak, is also a well-known violinist in Norway.
Alexander Igorevich Rybak (born 13 May 1986) or Alyaksandr Iharavich Rybak is a Belarusian-Norwegian singer-composer, violinist, pianist, author and actor. Based in Oslo, Norway, Rybak extensively worked on television programs and on tours in Europe, particularly in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe throughout the early 2010s. Performing in English, Russian and Norwegian, Rybak held on to a teen idol status in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and to a certain extent in Western Asia in his early twenties.
Rybak was awarded the highly prestigious Anders Jahres award in 2004. He participated in Norway's Popstar competition (Idol: Looking for a Superstar) and made it to the semi-finals.
In 2006, he won the talent competition Kjempesjansen organized by NRK (Norwegian State Television) with his own song Foolin.
Alexander has also worked with a-ha frontman Morten Harket and Arve Tellefsen.
In 2007, he played the violinist in the musical Fiddler on the Roof, an Oslo Nye Teater production. Thanks to his role here, he won the Heddaprisen Award.
He appeared in the role of Levi in the movie Yohan, directed by Grete Salomonsen, and starred with the well-known model Aylar Lie.
Alexander Rybak won the 54th Eurovision Song Contest held in Moscow, the capital of Russia, with his song Fairytale, inspired by Russian and Norwegian folk melodies, collecting 387 points.
The lyrics and music of the song belong to Alexander himself. The song was performed with the famous modern folk dance troupe Frikar.
