The Turk who defrauded the Italian state: Who is Cunning Fevzi?
In Italy, two girls, Mirella Gregori, and Emanuela Orlandi, were abducted in 1983. News about these two children, who could not be found even today, was also published in Turkey. And a Turk played big and defrauded the Italian state.
That swindler was 19-year-old Fevzi Mufti.
In Italy, two girls, Mirella Gregori, and Emanuela Orlandi, were abducted in 1983. News about these two children, who could not be found even today, was also published in Turkey.
Looking for ways to earn money, Fevzi started to set up his plan after reading the news.
He was a student of Anadolu University Faculty of Business Administration. He knew a little Arabic. He went to the Italian Consulate in Mersin. He said he was going to tell an important topic.
They talked to the consul. There were allegations that the girls were abducted by a terrorist organization affiliated with Turkey. Fevzi was also claiming that he could save those two girls from the terrorist organization.
They told me that the organization will release the girls in exchange for $60,000.
Consul: "Wouldn't it be for 45 thousand dollars?" asked. The bargain had begun.
DO NOT FOLLOW
Fevzi asked for time to consult the organization. He wanted everything to look real.
When he went to the consulate again a few days later, he described what happened in the following days:
“While I, Consul Emilio Levante, and the lawyer were talking, a man named Desi came in, whom I learned was on duty at the Italian embassy in Ankara. They talked among themselves and took out a bag and gave me the $50,000 in it.”
Cunning Fevzi, "Do not follow me, do not inform the police. Otherwise, I will return the money, and you will not have a job” and left the consulate.
He exchanged some money and took a taxi and started walking around town. Of course, he was followed.
He went to the consulate again and angrily tossed the money and said, “I am being followed. I will not do your work,” he snapped. The Italians attempted to persuade Fevzi.
Of course, Fevzi was convinced after casting a role or two.
He took some of the dollars and went to Ankara. He was hosted at the embassy. He wandered around the city and returned to Mersin.
BEACHES FIRST THEN ISTANBUL
As soon as he returned, he bought a used car for 10 thousand dollars. And it started to eat money on the Aegean-Mediterranean coasts.
He traveled with the girls, had a lot of fun, and had a nice vacation.
Then he jumped and went to Istanbul. The disco toured the pavilion.
When he returned to Mersin, there was a knock on the door of the house one evening. They called him downstairs to tow his car. Packed as soon as it landed.
It was MIT who caught him.
He ate 31,500 of the 50 thousand dollars he received from the Italians in a month. The $ 18,500 on him was confiscated.
He went to court and was arrested. However, he was released after 19 days as there was no suspicion of escape. He would be tried without detention. In his statement, “I fell into an ignorance. And I cheated the Italians. I admit my guilt. I'm sorry, but I don't think I committed a big crime," he said and made another threat:
“If the Italians don't give up on their case, I have huge documents. I'll explain them."
The Italian consul Levante explained that they could not be deceived a second time:
“These words are similar to the previous words of Fevzi Mufti. It means nothing more than being the product of his fine intelligence. We do not give up on the case. We want our money.”
I don't know if the Italians were able to get the money back.
But being scammed by a 19-year-old college student must be tough enough.
