With the release of Eno's album Music for Airports 1, the first of his Ambient series, in 1978, the ambient genre officially gained a name after its conceptualization. The album consists of 4 tracks lasting 48 minutes, which Eno designed as a sound installation, with the hope that it would be an antidote to the depressing atmosphere of the place, after realizing that he was stuck in the "boring" atmosphere of the place while waiting for his plane at Cologne airport. Although Music for Airports 1 is not the first album of the genre, it goes down in history as the first genre-specific album consciously labeled as ambient.
