She was a former star of Disney; now she's a CEO: Who is Bridgit Mendler?

Bridgit Mendler continues to turn new pages in her career after quitting acting. The former star of Disney announced that she is the new CEO of the company called Northwood Space.

Bridgit Mendler, who is especially remembered for her character Teddy Duncan in the 2010 Disney Channel series Good Luck Charlie, was also known for productions such as Wizards of Waverly Place and The Clique. The artist decided to quit her acting career after Merry Happy Whatever in 2019.

The artist, born in 1992, who is also known as a musician and model, studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Law School and began to follow a different path in her career.

Bridgit Claire Mendler (born December 18, 1992) is an American actress, singer-songwriter, executive, and businesswoman. She first became known as a child actress, with her early credits including the films Alice Upside Down (2007), The Clique (2008) and Labor Pains (2009). She signed with Disney Channel in 2009 and played Juliet van Heusen on Wizards of Waverly Place (2009–2012), Olivia White in the Disney Channel film Lemonade Mouth (2011), and Teddy Duncan on the Disney series Good Luck Charlie (2010–2014). She went on to portray Candace in the NBC sitcom Undateable (2015–2016), Ashley Willerman in the ABC/CMT musical television series Nashville (2017), and Emmy Quinn in the Netflix comedy series Merry Happy Whatever (2019).

While Mendler states that she is “very much in love with space law,” she is stepping into a new career in the space industry with the company named Northwood Space.

Speaking to CNBC, Bridgit Mendler summarizes her new initiative with the following words:

“Our vision is to establish a data highway between Earth and space. Space is getting easier in many different dimensions, but the actual implementation of sending data to and from space is still difficult. “You are having a hard time finding an access point to communicate with your satellite.”

Northwood Space Company aims to produce ground stations rather than building rockets or satellites. Ground stations, also known as teleporters, house large, often circular antennas that connect to satellites in space.

The space company, headed by Bridgit Mendler, is embarking on its journey with a fund of $6 million from investors including Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, and Also Capital.

At Northwood Space, Mendler is accompanied by Griffin Cleverly, the chief technology officer of the startup and also her husband, and Shaurya Luthra, head of the software department.

Mendler states that the name of the company comes from a lake in New Hampshire where she went while spending time with her family during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Griffin Cleverly draws attention to the huge amount of data flowing between satellites and the Earth with the growth of the space industry and says, "We need an approach so that companies can receive the data reliably and in the quantities they need."

The initiative aims to carry out its first test by connecting to an orbiting spacecraft this year.
