He studied chemistry and became a musician: Who is Bülent Ortaçgil?
A city poet who writes stories with song lyrics. Bülent Ortaçgil, one of the musicians loved by those with developed intellectual curiosity in Turkey, was born on March 1, 1950, in Ankara.
Bülent Ortaçgil, who started playing music during his high school years, entered the music market with his first single, "Meaningless", while he was studying at the Faculty of Chemistry.
He recorded his first album "Benimle Oynar Mısın" in 1974, just like his first 45, under the name "Bülent". He worked with Onno Tunç and Ergun Pekakcan on this album, which is still considered one of the most important in Turkish pop history.
"Rain", one of the songs in the album, was composed of a poem by Swedish poet Artur Lundkvist, composed by Ortaçgil. But the album sold only 2000 units. He bought himself a Dual record player with the money he earned from this album.
The album was released 30 years later in America by the "World Psychedelia" company. The album, which was likened to the works of British folk-rock and psychedelic folk artists such as Nick Drake and Donovan, was appreciated. The single "Should There Be or Shouldn't Be / Şık Latife" from the album was released.
In the early 1980s, he met Fikret Kızılok, a musician who also took a break from music. The duo founded Çekirdek Sanatevi. They made many joint compositions and songs.
