One of the most famous novelists in Nigerian literature: Who is Chinua Achebe?

Nigerian writer. He became the pioneer of modern novel understanding in his country. He was born in Ogidi, eastern Nigeria. He is from the Ibo tribe, one of the largest of the more than two hundred ethnic groups in his country. In 1954, he graduated from the University of Ibadan, teaching in English. He worked at the Nigerian Radio Broadcasting Corporation. In 1967, he founded a publishing house with Christopher Okigbo, who later died in the civil war. In 1969, he made a long trip to America with his two writer friends and gave lectures at universities.

Chinua Achebe (born Albert Chinụalụmọgụ Achebe; 16 November 1930 – 21 March 2013) was a Nigerian novelist, poet, and critic who is regarded as a central figure of modern African literature. 

When he published his first novel, Things Fail Apart, in 1959, Nigerian novels and short story literature were no more than fantastic folk tales and light tales of urban life. This novel was about the changes and conflicts that arose in tribal life with the arrival of the whites. His second novel is No Longer at Ease. (1960) dealt with the conflict of an idealist trained by foreigners with his environment in the last days of colonial rule. Arrow of God (1964) tells the desperation of a village wizard who senses the inadequacy of traditional structures and turns to change. Dealing with intercultural conflicts in all of his early novels, Achebe criticized the political corruption seen after independence in his 1966 novel A Man of the People.

He contributed to the literature of his country with novels that brought in-depth social and psychological analysis. He is considered one of the leading writers of present-day Africa.
