Joe Biden's only opponent in the presidential candidacy: Who is Dean Phillips?
Nobody is giving a chance to Dean Phillips, a member of the House of Representatives and businessman from Minnesota, who is running against Joe Biden in the Democratic Party.
Contrary to popular belief, there are not just two parties in the USA. Although senators and members of the House of Representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties sit in all of the seats in Congress, the US legislative body, there are four other parties with representatives elected to the legislatures of the states. In addition, there are 34 other parties that continue their activities and participate in elections from time to time, despite having no significant political successes at the federal or state level.
Dean Benson Phillips (born January 20, 1969) is an American businessman, politician, and candidate for the 2024 Democratic Party presidential nomination who has served as the U.S. representative from Minnesota's 3rd congressional district since 2019. Phillips's district encompasses the western suburbs of the Twin Cities, such as Bloomington, Minnetonka, Edina, Maple Grove, Plymouth, and Eden Prairie. A member of the Democratic Party, Phillips has both owned and started several companies in addition to serving as president and CEO of his family's liquor business, the Phillips Distilling Company. He is the former co-owner of Talenti gelato and co-owns Penny's Coffee. On November 24, 2023, Phillips announced that he would not run for reelection.
If we add 26 more parties that have not participated in any elections since 2021 but are organized under the name of a party, there are actually almost 70 political parties operating in the USA. But when it comes to presidential elections, naturally only the names of two parties come to mind.
As of the day this article was written, there are eight names that have announced that they are running to become the President of the United States. In addition to the Republican and Democratic candidates, one person from the Green Party and two independents officially became candidates for the presidency.
Nobody is giving a chance to Dean Phillips, a member of the House of Representatives and businessman from Minnesota, who is running against Joe Biden in the Democratic Party. The strongest candidate of the Republican Party is Donald Trump. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Halley is the one who is looking forward to Trump getting caught in a "legal trip" and paving the way for them.
We haven't heard this second name much. But if Trump withdraws from the race due to his lawsuits, it is almost certain that Ms. Halley, who made a name for herself internationally while serving as the US Permanent Representative to the UN during the Trump era, will become a candidate.
So far, in the Republican Party's nomination process, Trump has received 63 delegates and Halley has 17 delegates. Among those who previously announced that they were candidates, Vivek Ramaswamy withdrew his candidacy on January 15, and Ron DeSantis withdrew his candidacy on January 21.
According to Article 2 of the Constitution, which lists the conditions for becoming a President, the President of the United States must be at least 35 years old, born in the United States, and have resided in the United States for at least 14 years.
