The singer who combines classical music with modern elements: Who is Emma Shapplin?

Emma, whose real name is Marie-Ange Chapelain, was born on May 19, 1974, in Savigny, a suburb of Paris, as the daughter of a police father and a secretary mother.

Marie-Ange, the only daughter and youngest in a family of three children was neither interested in music nor singing until the age of 14. She was raised as a boy. She preferred to spend his time playing football and climbing trees, not music.

When she was fourteen, she met a former canto player and singing teacher who was in his 70s. Marie-Ange, who took lessons from him for about a year, was extremely bored because she was not used to such discipline. Over time, She got used to it, and once she got used to it, she started to like it so much that she couldn't think of anything else. She worked hard and learned easily. His teacher thought he was talented. Before long, she was in a position to easily showcase her unique soprano voice.

His family wanted him to pursue a more serious field in which he could make a career. Her family made Marie-Ange quit classes and kept her away from choir studies at school. She had dreams of singing the "Queen of the Night" aria from Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute"...

Emma Shapplin (born Crystêle Madeleine Joliton on 19 May 1974, in the Paris suburb of Savigny-le-Temple) is a French soprano.

Marie-Ange was determined to thwart her family's plans to make her a secretary, she wanted to sing. She failed the secretarial exams she took when she was eighteen, but she didn't seem bothered by this at all. The young girl's eyes were on completely different things.

When she was nineteen, Marie left her family and moved to her own home in Paris, where she continued her singing lessons and went to a singing school for a short time.

It was not easy for him to get used to city life, he went in and out of many jobs, but he managed to survive. At the Paris Conservatory, she could easily pursue music, away from the pressure of her family. However, she left the school because of the school's strict discipline and very traditional interpretations.

Again, thanks to coincidences, she joined a hard rock band, "North Wind", as a soloist. She had to keep her soprano voice to herself, she sang the songs with a harsher, rougher tone that matched the lyrics of the group for three years... As she said in an interview, although she loved hard rock, working with this group was not enough for Emma.

On the other hand, Emma did not want to do opera in the classical sense. Deciding to create her own music, Emma met Jean-Patrick Capdevielle, the famous French singer of the 80s, known for "Quand t'es dans le désert" and "Chiquita", by chance and made him listen to a test tape. Capdevielle admired the young singer's voice and decided to make an album for her because she shared her taste in opera. It was not easy for them to decide what style to do it in. Marie-Ange, stage name Emma, could work in a wide range of music, from grunge to hard rock, opera to classical music. They decided on classical music.

The pieces were composed with the help of Emma and Jean-Patrick Capdevielle's son Jonathan, taking into account the styles of 19th-century Italian composers such as Donizetti and Bellini. They were both more interested in opera than other branches. The majority of the lyrics were written by Capdevielle and in French, then translated into Latin by a specialist in Medieval Italian. Thus, in 1997, Emma Shapplin's first album "Carmine Meo" was born.

This work was also commercially successful, selling one hundred thousand units in a short period of three months. Especially with the help of the first single, "Spente Le Stelle", the album quickly surpassed even Madonna and Celine Dion and reached the top, earning Emma Platinum Records in many places. Nine of the tracks in the album belonged to the famous French singer, and four belonged to Emma. This rapid fame suddenly made Emma Shapplin the most curious name in the music world in many countries...

Emma released her second album "Etterna" in 2002. In this album, the artist wrote the lyrics of almost all of the songs and composed some of them.

Considered today's Modern Diva, Emma has an interesting personality who designs the costumes she uses in her own clips and concerts and writes her own clip scripts.
