He tried to recreate the atmosphere of some old fairy tales: Who is Evgeny Grinko?
They call him the Wizard of Minimalist Music: A famous musician who reached the top with his musical style, which he made radical changes in his twenties, and who, contrary to the norm, created wonders with the piano he learned later; Would you like to get to know Evgeny Grinko better?
Evgeny Grinko, who was born in 1984 in a small settlement called Zhukovsky in Russia, has an interesting musical career. Grinko, who played drums in punk rock bands in his youth and composed his first composition for the punk band he was a member of at the age of 16, decided to change genre and turn to classical music.
His practice of music comes from his natural-born artistic ability. Even though he does not have formal training, his simple yet dazzling compositions are based on the sequential order of short melodies, which makes his music unique, and encompassing, handling a melancholy reminiscent of broken dreams.
The musician, who was interested in piano and classical music at the age of 22 and learned to play the piano at this age, also once again broke the prejudices about taking instrument training at an older age. One of the most obvious issues that paved the way for Evgeny Grinko to make such a radical transformation in his musical style was his rearrangement of Joy Division's song 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' for an army band. We can say that this regulation is almost a turning point for him.
Another reason why he adopted this new musical style, Grinko says for the Tiny Mouse Tales album, "I tried to recreate the atmosphere of some old fairy tales that I was used to hearing on records."
The most popular composition of Evgeny Grinko, who has a wide fan base, is also his first video clip song, Valse...
The clip, shot as naturally as possible at the piano with a cigarette in his mouth in an empty field, has millions of views. As for the story of the clip, Grinko stated that the director recorded it while he was testing at the piano and decided to turn that recording into a video clip, contrary to their plans. He had to smoke a cigarette until the clip was finished.
We can observe the traces of the different musical experiences he gained and the geography he lived in in Grinko's works. The artist's song 'Morning in Pripyat' tells about the city of Pripyat in Northern Ukraine. The city, built for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the 70s, was evacuated in 1986 due to the Chernobyl explosion.
Evgeny Grinko, who has given countless concerts in many countries around the world, takes the stage with a large violin, accordion team, and drummer in his performances.
