He has legs dancing with pedals: Who is Fabio Jakobsen?
He survived a major accident in 2020: Fabio emerged from that coma with a cracked skull, a broken nose and the complete loss of his front upper teeth. He came back from the dead, so to speak.
Fabio Jakobsen has become not just a cyclist, but also an icon representing perseverance and resilience. His rebirth after the accident inspires everyone, not just the sports world. His story tells about the power of sports and the unlimited potential within people.
Born in 1996 in Heukelum (Netherlands). He is 1.81 m tall and weighs 78 kg. We can say that he has the ideal physique for cycling. He has a fit body and legs that are muscular enough to dance with pedals. He competes for the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team. He is just at the beginning of a sports career that could last many years, such as cycling, and he has a great motivational story to be successful.
Tour of Poland 2020 made everyone's heart skip a beat. He was left in a coma as a result of his terrible accident. His girlfriend, Delore Stougje, watched the accident on her television and thought Fabio was dead. After monitoring his health in a panic and learning that he was in a coma, he began to worry that he would never be able to ride a bike again, even if he lived.
Fabio Jakobsen (born 31 August 1996) is a Dutch cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Team dsm–firmenich PostNL.
He wasn't wrong in his concerns. Fabio emerged from that coma with a cracked skull, a broken nose, and the complete loss of his front upper teeth. He came back from the dead, so to speak.
Being able to survive this critical threshold became a source of motivation for Fabio. He underwent a rigorous training process accompanied by physiotherapists and doctors. In 2021, he dedicated his first-place finish in the fourth stage of Molina de Aragon to the healthcare workers who resurrected him.
Because he lost all his teeth, he got implants and did not hide it. There is also a natural post about this on Instagram. We can also understand the difference in facial bones from the photos before and after 2020.
He is still angry with Dylan Groenewegen, the Jumbo-Visma racer who caused the accident. (He crashes his bike in front of Fabio at the very beginning of the race.) At one point, they had a meeting with club officials, but Fabio said that Dylan, who almost caused his death, did not even apologize to him individually. He was expecting an apology, not just individually but publicly. After such a trauma, Fabio's expectations are natural.
Jakobsen, who found himself on the list of potential cyclists in 2021, has the first places in Europetropole, Gooksie Pijl, as well as Tour de Wallonie (2nd Stage), Vuelta a Espana (3rd Stage). As of 2021, he was ranked 62nd in the world rankings.
