Indian actor, one of the famous faces of Bollywood: Who is Farooq Shaikh?
He became one of the indispensable actors of Bollywood films for 20 years between 1973 and 1993. In 1973, while he was in his last year of law school, he acted in his first movie.
He was born on March 25, 1948, in India. Shaikh, who became famous with the 1973 film "Garm Hawa" about the division of the subcontinent after the end of British rule in 1947, was the leading actor in "Shatranj Ke Khiladi" (Chess Players), directed by Satyajit Ray.
His father was a lawyer working in Bombay. Shaikh grew up in a luxurious environment in Mumbai. He was the eldest of five children.
Shaikh, who also worked with famous directors such as Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, and Ketan Mehta, won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the movie "Lahore" in 2010.
Farooq Sheikh (25 March 1948 − 28 December 2013) was an Indian actor, philanthropist and television presenter. He was best known for his work in Hindi films from 1973 to 1993 and for his work in television between 1988 and 2002. He returned to acting in films in 2008 and continued to do so until his death on 28 December 2013. His major contribution was in Parallel Cinema or the New Indian Cinema. He worked with directors like Satyajit Ray, Sai Paranjpye, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Ayan Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta.
According to the news of Press Trust of India, Farooq Shaikh passed away at the age of 65 as a result of a heart attack on December 27, 2013, in Dubai, where he went to visit his family.
