François Cavanna was born in France on February 22, 1923.

Cavanna, one of the colorful figures of the French press, wrote the novels "Les Ritals", "Les Russkoffs" and "Bête et méchant".

François Cavanna founded the Hara-Kiri humor magazine in 1960, and this magazine continued its publication under the name Charlie Hebdo from 1969.

François Cavanna (22 February 1923 – 29 January 2014) was a French author and satirical newspaper editor. He contributed to the creation and success of Hara-Kiri and Charlie Hebdo. He wrote in a variety of genres including reportage, satire, essays, novels, autobiography and humor. He also translated six books about famous cartoonists.

Writer, journalist, and cartoonist Cavanna passed away in France on January 29, 2014, at the age of 90, after receiving treatment for Parkinson's disease for a long time at the Henri-Mondor hospital in Paris.

Humor magazine Charlie Hebdo, where 12 people died and nearly 20 were injured as a result of an attack in Paris in 2015, was first founded as a newspaper in 1960 under the name Hara-Kiri.

Later, in 1969, François Cavanna, Choron, and Delfeil De Ton came together and started publishing a Monthly Cartoon magazine under the name Charlie.

In 1992, it was renamed Carlie Hebdo and became a weekly.
