Actors John Saxon, Heather Langenkamp, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss, Jsu Garcia, Robert Englund, and Johnny Depp are in the cast of the film. Johnny Depp took his first step into acting with this film. The film is about a few young people in a fictional town called Springwood, Ohio, who are murdered in their dreams by the ghost of serial child killer Freddy Krueger.

Wes Craven shot the film on a budget of approximately $1.8 million. It made up for this amount in its first week of release. It earned $25.5 million in box office revenue in the United States. The film has gained a very important place in the horror genre, and the villain of the film, Freddy, has become the most well-known villain in the history of cinema.

Both critics and Craven stated that Halloween (1978), which ushered in the golden age of horror films in the slasher genre (films in which young people are murdered by a psychopathic serial killer), played an important role in the success of the film.

Freddy Krueger is a fictional character and the primary antagonist in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. He was created by Wes Craven and made his debut in Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) as the malevolent spirit of a child killer who had been burned to death by his victims' parents after evading prison. Krueger goes on to murder his victims in their dreams, causing their deaths in the real world as well. In the dream world, he is a powerful force and seemingly invulnerable. However, whenever Freddy is pulled back into the real world, he has normal human vulnerabilities and can be destroyed.

It had a story that oscillated between reality and a dream world. Freddy Krueger, who existed in the dream world, could kill people in the real world. Sequels continued to blur the differences between reality and dream.

Following the great success of the first film, A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984, the green light was quickly given for the sequel. When Robert Englund, who played the legendary Freddy character, asked for more payment for the role, New Line studio hired a stuntman, thinking Englund was not that important. But the trials were so bad that the studio quickly changed their mind and paid Englund his asking price.

Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley was the Freddy in 2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street. However, what is not widely known is that Haley auditioned for the role of Glen in the first movie, released in 1984, but his friend Johnny Depp got the role. According to backstage gossip, Depp, who went to the audition with his friend Jackie, entered the audition at the director's request and won. Thus, he got his first movie role.

Famous actor Englund had his cult Freddy make-up done again for the horror-themed convention Flashback Weekend in Chicago. His costume at the convention in 2010 was the actor's last appearance as Freddy.

Bollywood is known for adapting every movie to its own culture. The Ramsay Brothers, the master directors of the Indian horror genre, did not ignore Freddy, who became a cult film with his 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film, released under the name Mahakaal, was the same, from its plot to its music and even the appearance of its villain.

Freddy is a character that is very suitable for parodying. The movie A Wet Dream On Elm Street, written and directed by Lee Roy Myers in 2011, is one of the productions that benefit from this. In the movie, which shows Freddy as someone who enters dreams and has sex with women with different camouflage, we also learn details such as the reasons for Freddy's burnt skin and who he most wants to be like.

D C Follies was one of the interesting but not very long-lived programs of the 80s. In one episode of the program, where political criticism is made through puppets, the Freddy puppet becomes depressed when he dies because he will only be remembered for the young people he killed. But when he is reminded that he sang at Madonna and Sean Penn's wedding and everyone in the hall had tears in their eyes, his mood immediately brightens.

In the third movie of the series, released in 1987, Freddy changes location and chooses a psychiatric center for young people to haunt. Deaf Joey, one of the guests of the center, dreams that he is getting close to the nurse he likes. But then it turns out that this is Freddy. According to the film's shooting schedule, Freddy's head would be on the naked nurse's body in the scene where Joey realizes this. Thus, we would see Freddy up to the bottom of the nurse's breasts, and below, the legs of an attractive woman. However, the entire team, including the director, decided that this would not be appropriate and changed that part.

One of Freddy's most iconic lines was actually based on the actor's ability to improvise. While Freddy slams his head on the TV to kill the character Jennifer, who is watching TV in the 3rd movie of the series, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, the original script says "This is your turn, Jennifer! Your moment to shine on TV!" he shouted. However, after the 4th take, Robert Englund decided to improvise, this time saying "Welcome to Primetime!" yell. Director Chuck Russell liked the line and decided to use both and combine the two lines in the edit.

Even though he is the nightmare of Elm Street, Freddy Krueger has many fans. It even has its own celebration day. The request to celebrate September 12th as Freddy Krueger Day in Los Angeles, one day before the release of the 1991 movie Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, which is claimed to be Freddy's last movie, came directly from New Line studios. This tradition is still continued by fans of the movie!

It's a footnote unknown to many that the only reason there isn't a Freddy Krueger movie directed by John McNaughton is because of Adam Sandler. Sandler's 2000 movie Little Nicky contained many scenes set in hell. New Line was so dismayed by the film's failure that it rejected McNaughton's idea for a sequel based on Freddy's time in hell. McNaughton still accuses Sandler of this issue in his interviews...

The Nightmare on Elm Street Series and A Nightmare on Elm Street lasted exactly 10 years and the series was shot in 7 episodes.
