She holds the record for the world's most expensive female artist: who is Georgia O'Keeffe?

We have compiled information from the life and works of this fascinating, free and inspiring painter.

Georgia O'Keeffe, who is considered one of the pioneers of the world of painting art, went down in history as a figure who influenced both her period and the artists who came after her, from her behavior to her dressing style, from her unique style she created to her understanding of painting and art. Considered a pioneer with her ideas as a female artist, O'Keeffe continues to be discussed with her great popularity.

Georgia O'Keeffe was born on November 15, 1887, on a farm in the Town of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Her father, a dairy farmer, was of Irish descent. Born the second of seven siblings, Georgia received her primary education at Town Hall School in Sun Prairie. She took painting lessons from Sara Mann, a local watercolorist, with her Georgia sisters, who decided to become painters at the age of 10. Continuing her boarding education from 1901 to 1902, Georgia moved in with her family, who moved to Peacock Hill in Williamsburg, Virginia, towards the end of 1902. She then moved on to the Chatham Episcopal Institute, where she graduated in 1905. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1905-1906 and at the Art Students League in New York from 1907-1908. She learned traditional realist painting techniques under the direction of William Merritt Chase, F. Luis Mora, and Kenyon Cox. Her understanding of art changed dramatically when she read Arthur Wesley Dow's revolutionary ideas in 1912.

Nature and body form the main axis of O'Keeffe's paintings. It is noteworthy that she uses intense and night-toned colors thanks to her watercolor paintings, in which she paints wide landscapes during nature walks, and the sunrise and sunset views that she likes to watch. She is known for attempting to paint based on her most personal feelings, as well as painting a monumental landscape in a simple composition, mixing blue and green colors with almost imperceptible tonal gradations, capturing the vibrations of light.
