Blanco was caught while escaping from the Narcotics unit in California and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Released in 2004, Blanco took care of one of her former male partners and disappeared. Blanco was not heard from again for 8 years, until she was shot and killed by a motorcyclist while driving in Medellin, Colombia, in 2012.

Griselda Blanco Restrepo (February 14, 1943 – September 3, 2012), known as the Black Widow or Cocaine Godmother, was a Colombian drug lord who was prominent in the cocaine-based drug trade and underworld of Miami, US, during the 1970s through the early 2000s, and who has also been claimed by some to have been part of the Medellín Cartel. Blanco was assassinated in Medellín on September 3, 2012, aged 69.

Life story
Cocaine Queen Griselda Blanco was born on February 15, 1943, in Medellín, Colombia. She had a difficult childhood. Because her father was killed and her family started living in poverty. Griselda ran away from home at the age of 16 and got involved in many illegal activities to survive on the streets. Her relatives say that she had experienced terrible events until that age and that she was escaping from her stepfather's sexual abuse at home. She eventually became involved in drug trafficking and moved to the United States in the 1970s.
Living in Florida, Griselda continued drug trafficking and quickly established one of the largest drug cartels in the country. She and her partners made huge profits by smuggling large amounts of cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs into America. Griselda was the “Mother”, and the “Queen of Cocaine” and became very rich through her work. However, Blanco's life included many murders along with her illegal dealings. Griselda killed her rivals and even her own men. In 1985, Griselda's brother and son were killed in a shooting in Miami. This incident marked the beginning of many legal problems Griselda faced. In 1985, Griselda Blanco was accused of drug trafficking, murder, money laundering, and other crimes. Her trial took place in federal court in Miami and was, at the time, one of the federal government's largest drug cases in history. The court found Griselda guilty and sentenced her to life imprisonment. Griselda Blanco was deported to Colombia in 2004, after completing part of her prison sentence. However, in 2012, gunmen on motorcycles killed him in Medellín.
