One of the world's foremost interior designers: Who is Jacques Garcia?
The interior architect, who draws attention with his design from Hotel Costes in Paris to La Mamounia in Marrakech, from Banyan Tree in Doha to Park Chinois in London, appears with his signature in many hotels and restaurants.
Jacques Garcia is also a good collector, collecting furniture and royal art objects that were dispersed after the French Revolution for years.
Jacques Garcia, (born 25 September 1947) is a French architect, interior designer and garden designer, best known for his contemporary interiors of Paris hotels and restaurants.
Now, Jacques Garcia is auctioning 75 pieces of historical furniture, sculptures, and porcelain from his own collection at Sotheby's Paris.
Decorative objects from the 17th to the 19th centuries draw attention at the “Jacques Garcia, Intemporal” auction.
Among the valuable items to be auctioned are the armchair of Marie Antoinette, the console table of Parisian carpenter Adam Weisweiler, and the King of England III. There is also a closet belonging to William and Queen Mary II and items belonging to King Louis XV and Louis XVl and Napoleon Bonaparte.
It is estimated that the parts will be sold at prices between 100 thousand euros and 2 million euros.
Among the magnificent pieces are those made by Georges Jacob, who designed furniture for royal families, and a coffee table decorated with 400 bird drawings by Louis Leclerc de Buffon.
Proceeds from the auction will fund the maintenance of the 17th-century Château du Champ-de-Bataille in Normandy, France.
Designed by the architect of the Palace of Versailles, Louis de Vau, the chateau was in shambles when Garcia bought it in 1992.
Garcia has spent the last 30 years restoring the castle, working with landscape architect Patrick Pottier to redesign its lush gardens while also honoring its history.
The result was Europe's largest private garden.
Meanwhile, although Garcia wanders through the leaves of history with his personal collection and castle, he is also enjoying a pop-cultural life at Villa Elena in Sicily, featured in the popular TV series The White Lotus.
