Pioneer of Java Programming Language: Who is James Gosling?

He is known as the father of the Java programming language for his contributions to the original design of Java, the compilation of the language, and the design of the virtual machine.

Gosling, who worked at Sun Microsystems between 1984 and 2010, left the company where he laid the foundations of Java in 2010. He said patent lawsuits and unnecessary confrontations caused this.

James Gosling (born 19 May 1955) is a Canadian computer scientist, best known as the founder and lead designer behind the Java programming language. Gosling was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2004 for the conception and development of the architecture for the Java programming language and for contributions to window systems.

At the age of 13, he was taken to the computer department of a university by his father's friend, and that's when he passed out and thought he had to enter there again. Gosling earned his first money by writing software for the PDP-8 at that university, which he secretly entered when he was only 14 years old.

Gosling received a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary in 1977. In 1983, he completed his doctorate in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. While preparing his doctoral thesis, he wrote a version of Emacs named after himself. While still at Carnegie University, he created a multiprocessor version of Unix and designed several compilers and mail systems.

Business life

In fact, as we mentioned, he did his first job at the age of 14. During the period when he taught himself PD-8 programming, he earned his first money by writing code for a group of scientists trying to understand the functioning of the Northern Lights.

In 1984, Gosling started working at Sun Microsystems. He worked at Sun Microsystem until 2010 and then announced on his website in 2011 that he started working for Google. He says that the reason he left Sun Microsystems was patent lawsuits and unnecessary conflicts.

Although he announced that he started working for Google in 2011, he announced that he moved to Liquid Robotics, a start-up company, about five months later.

He joined Amazon Web Services as a distinguished engineer in May 2017.

Java Programming Language

Java language is a programming language that was started to be developed in 1991 by James Gosling, one of the Sun Microsystem engineers and was first named Oak. Later, the name of the project was changed to Green and finally, it was named Java.
