Jamie Lee Curtis was born on November 22, 1958, in Santa Monica, California, USA. Her father is film actor Tony Curtis and her mother is film actress Janet Leigh. Her older sister, Kelly Curtis (b.1956), is also an actress.

Her grandparents were Hungarian Jewish immigrants. After her parents divorced in 1962, she grew up with stockbroker Robert Brandt, whom her mother married. She has half-siblings named Alexandra, Allegra, Benjamin, and Nicholas from her father's subsequent marriages. She studied at Westlake School, Beverly Hills High School, and Choate Rosemary Hall Private School and graduated in 1976. She enrolled at Pacific University in 1976, but after studying there for only 1 semester, she dropped out to focus on her acting career.

Jamie Lee Curtis shared the pose she took on the set of the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once" on Instagram. Stating that she no longer hides her belly, Curtis explained that she has been walking around pulling her belly in to look slim since she was 11 years old.
