The actress, who compared herself to a tightrope walker trying to balance on a thin rope at that time, explains that her mother's feelings varied from one day to the next.

Jennette McCurdy, the only daughter of her family, says that her mother directed her to become an actress since she was a child. "My mom always dreamed of being a famous actress. It became a fixed idea for me to be a famous star," she says.

"I felt that my duty was to keep the peace. And I wanted to make my mother happy," describing that period, Jennette McCurdy also emphasizes that she received the financial support of her family to become an actress.

According to McCurdy; Her mother, Debbie, focused on her image when she was just a 10-year-old boy. Debbie McCurdy, who started to bleach Jennette McCurdy's hair and whiten her teeth in those years, then started counting the calories consumed by her daughter.

McCurdy stated that this also caused her to have an eating disorder. Jennette McCurdy later says, "If my mother were alive, I would still have an eating disorder."

Jennette McCurdy was just 14 years old and was struggling with anorexia when she started casting a role in the TV series 'iCarly', which meant that her mother's dreams came true. Jennette McCurdy also explains that until the age of 17, her mother did genital and breast examinations and did not allow her to go to the bathroom alone.

McCurdy's mother, Debbie, died in 2013 after battling cancer for 17 years. Debbie, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer when Jennette was very young, first recovered. But the disease appeared in her brain, this time in 2010. After her death, a different and difficult life began for the famous actress. Jennette McCurdy, who was 21 when her mother died, says that after she lost her, she drank a lot of alcohol, had uncontrolled sex, that is, she started doing everything her mother forbade. McCurdy states that she spent five years like this after her mother passed away, and that she returned to a normal life after the therapy she received in 2018.

Jennette McCurdy announced that she quit acting in early 2021 and was ashamed of the comedy series she had acted in in the past. Emphasizing writing and directing instead of acting, McCurdy said, "It's a risk to change one's life. But I made it a goal, a duty."
