CEO serving passengers as a flight attendant: Who is Jens Ritter?
Jens Ritter, CEO of Germany's airline company Lufthansa, served passengers as a flight attendant. He explained the reason for doing this on the grounds that "We need to have other experiences". So who is Jens Ritter?
Jens Ritter has been the CEO of Lufthansa Airlines since April 1, 2022. Ritter, who studied aerospace engineering in Munich, started his flight career in 2000. He became a long-distance pilot in 2008. He has taken on managerial positions in the Lufthansa group, where he has worked for years, since 2005. Ritter, who became CEO a year ago, is married and has three children.
Prior to this role, he was a Member of the Board of Eurowings. Klaus Froese previously held this position at Lufthansa.
Jens Ritter served as a cabin attendant on round-trip flights from Frankfurt to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in August 2023.
The CEO also shared his experience on his LinkedIn account. Ritter, 50, who is also a pilot, explained his experience and why he made such a change as follows:
"BOTH INTERESTING AND COMPULSORY"
“Sometimes you need to change your perspective to gain new insights. This week, I accompanied our cabin crew as an 'additional crew member' on our planes flying to Riyadh and Bahrain. What a journey! I have been working in the Lufthansa group for many years, but I have never had the opportunity to work with the cabin crew. To be honest, this experience was both interesting and challenging for me. I was amazed at how much I learned in just a few hours. After serving in the cabin, making decisions in the office will be different.”
