He is the Hero of Asia: Who is Jet Li?
The brave hero of Asian cinema, the talented actor who is remembered for his successful performance in the movie "Hero". jet-li was born in Beijing on April 26, 1963.
Along with his two brothers and two sisters, he was raised by his mother after his father died when he was only 2 years old.
Li trained in traditional Far Eastern martial arts and was accepted into the Beijing Amateur Sports School at the age of 8. 3 years later, after this long training, Li received his first National Wushu Championship.
During his world tour in 1974, he received an honorary award in the dual combat competition held at the White House on behalf of President Nixon. During the following 5 years, he did not lose this honor to anyone.
Li Lianjie (courtesy name Yangzhong; born 26 April 1963), better known by his stage name Jet Li, is a Chinese-born Singaporean martial artist and actor. He is the recipient of multiple accolades, including a Golden Horse Award, a Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award, a Hong Kong Film Award, and a Shanghai Film Critics Award. Li is widely regarded as one of the most iconic Chinese film stars and one of the most renowned martial arts stars of his generation.
After graduating from school at the age of 17, he began to act in many important films. But his career took off in 1982 with "Shaolin Temple" directed by director Chang Hsin Yen. Thus, he took his first step towards fame, and the huge success of this film enabled him to appear in 25 successful Asian films before meeting Hollywood.
He was remembered for his portrayal of the Chinese hero Wong Fei-Hong in the 1997 movie "Once Upon a Time in China". He was now the sought-after face of honorable and brave hero roles.
He starred with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in his first English-language film, "Lethal Weapon 4", which was also the beginning of his career in Hollywood. Thus, he proved that he could successfully portray the villain character as well as the good and brave hero role.
It was followed by the films "Romeo Must Die" (2000), "The One" (2001) and "Kiss of the Dragon" (2001).
In 1999, he married his long-term partner, Nina Li.
Later, Li returned to Chinese cinema and starred in Zhang Yi Mou's film "Hero" (2002), one of the masterpieces of Far Eastern cinema.
Jet Li, who met his fans with the movie "Fearless" in 2006, is one of the most successful names representing Asia in Hollywood.
