Julian Yee was born on May 26, 1997, in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. He was a very active child. He was born into a family that loved sports and made an effort to introduce them to sports.
He was only 4 years old when he met Ice. The young athlete was fascinated by ice skating, which he started taking as an example from his older brother. It started as a family weekend activity, but his mother discovered his talent. She would encourage Julian to continue ice skating.

Julian Yee Zhi Jie (born 26 May 1997) is a Malaysian figure skater. He is also the first Olympian Malaysian figure skater. He is the 2017 and 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, 2015 CS Denkova-Staviski Cup silver medalist, 2016 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy and 2013 Skate Down Under bronze medalist, as well as five-time Malaysian senior national champion (2013–2017). He has competed in the final segment at ten ISU Championships, including four World Championships. He represented Malaysia at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
A few years later he joined the International Skating Union, which opened the door to international competitions. He was only 14 years old when he participated in his first international race. It was the first time the audience saw a Malaysian figure skater. In 2015, he came 2nd in the ISU (International Skating Union) Junior Grand Prix. With this release, his participation in the championships also increased. This was also a financial burden. His mother and father went door to door to find sponsors.
In Malaysia, where winter is almost unknown, the tracks he used for training were the areas inside shopping malls. Unfortunately, most of them were not of Olympic size. The Malaysian athlete did not give up. He wanted to prove to everyone that Malaysia could train an athlete in ice skating.
He became the champion at the 2017 Asian Games. The first place he took in the Nebelhorn Cup held in Germany was Julian Yee's ticket to the Olympics.
