Kara Goldin: The woman who became a millionaire by tasting water

Kara Goldin, who hated drinking water until 11 years ago, described water as "boring and very bland" and drank 10-12 cans of Diet Coke a day instead, is now the CEO of Hint Water, which has an annual sales volume of 70 million dollars.

Growing up in Arizona, Kara Goldin didn't know she would one day revolutionize the American beverage industry. Goldin decided to quit her job, as a Silicon Valley executive, to change her whole lifestyle while taking care of her kids. And actually, the whole story started with her decision to lose weight during her time at home.

“I was tired every moment of the day, my excess weight was making me sad and my face was acne-prone.”

Kara Ellen Goldin (nee Keenan; born 1967) is an American businesswoman. She is the founder and former CEO of Hint Water, a flavored water brand founded in 2005.

Kara Goldin, who consumes about 10-12 diet cokes a day, attributed her feeling very exhausted and her skin acne to her addiction to diet coke. But at the same time, she hated drinking water and the taste of the water was very insipid to her. According to him, drinking water could be more fun.

Based on this thought, she researched the markets and alternative drinks. She realized that calorie-free or diet waters were very unhealthy and complex products. She saw unnatural products filled with dozens of additives and sweeteners under the name of diet and vitamins. That's when she realized that the food and beverage industry doesn't care much about human health. And she uttered the following words:

"For God's sake, why doesn't anyone bottle a product like this..."

Seeing this deficiency in the market, Kara Goldin found the remedy in her own kitchen.

Before leaving the house one day, she dropped a few raspberries into a pitcher of water to sweeten the water. When she returned home, her family had finished the entire pitcher. And a light bulb went on in Kara's head!

She bottled this wonderful drink at home with her own hands and left 10 crates at the supermarket chain Whole Foods to wait. A few days later, Whole Foods called Kara Goldin and said that all the water had run out. Thus, Hint Water was established.

Today it is the largest independent company in the soft drink market in the United States. The San Francisco-based company has around 200 employees and its investors include musicians like John Legend.

The turning point of Hint Water was Michel Obama's promotion campaign to drink water. She reached out to Michel Obama to take part in the "Drink Up" campaign. In this way, millions of people became aware of the Kara and Hint Water.
