Supermodel with gold statue: Who is Kate Moss?

Kate Moss was born on January 16, 1974, in Croydon, South London, England. Her real name is Katherine Ann Moss. Her mother, Linda Rosina Shepherd, is a boutique manager and her father, Peter Edward Moss, is an airport employee. She has a younger brother named Nick and a half-sister named Lottie (Charlotte). Her parents divorced when Moss was just 13 years old. She first attended Ridgeway Primary School and then Riddlesdown High School after she graduated. Moss wasn't a bright student in school, but she was quite involved in sports and excelled in it.

At the age of 14, Moss was discovered by Storm Management founder Sarah Doukas at JFK airport in New York after returning from a vacation in the Bahamas. A brand new era has begun in her life for Moss, who started her career as a model. The first work that introduced her to the British press was a shot called "The Third Summer of Love", shot in black and white at the age of 16, by Corinne Day for the fashion magazine The Face. Moss later had great success with Levi's' campaign, which was founded by The Design Corporation and also shot by Corinne Day.

In the 90s, Moss was referred to as an anti-supermodel because she differed in style and appearance from the famous supermodels of the period Cindy Crawford, Lisa Snowdon, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell. She started using drugs at that time. The model, who fell into a coma as a result of the excessive amount of cocaine she took in Spain, was treated for a while.

On September 15, 2005, a big scandal started when the Daily Mirror published a photo of the model taking cocaine. After the incident, many companies that Moss worked with, broke off their connection with the model. In September 2005, Swedish fashion retailer H&M removed Moss from its Stella McCartney-designed fall clothing campaign due to drug allegations. A day later, Chanel said she would not renew her contract with Moss, which expires in October, even though this decision had nothing to do with the drug scandal. Burberry brand left Moss's campaign with them. Moss later apologized, but declined to admit to using drugs.

After a while, Moss started to appear in Dior's advertising campaigns. She was featured on the cover of the November 2005 W magazine, as well as a multi-page fashion shoot. Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Catherine Deneuve and ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp announced that they support Moss and they did not leave the model alone during this difficult period.

On January 5, 2006, the London Metropolitan Police asked Moss to return to the UK from the US to answer questions about the September 2005 drug news. In June 2006, British police dropped the charges due to lack of evidence. Eventually, Moss was cleared of all charges and resumed her modeling career. She has also appeared on the first covers of Moss Numéro, Numéro Tokyo and Spanish L'Officiel. Moss, who also had the opportunity to work with many famous photographers, won the Vogue/CFDA award as Fashion Inspiration by Fashion Designers in July 2005.

In April 2005, a television commercial for the Rimmel London brand showed Moss in a leather clad riding a motorcycle in London to the accompaniment of Steven Crayn's rock song "Another Cold Beer".

Twelve months after the drug news, Moss signed contracts with 18 brands for the fall-winter 2006 period, including Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Calvin Klein and Burberry. In November 2006, Moss was named model of the year at the British Fashion Awards, the biggest award in British fashion, but this award has sparked new controversy. Moss designed a women's collection for Topshop with Katy England. Designed on May 1, 2007, the garments were launched at the chain's 225 stores in the UK. On April 30, just before the store opened, Moss briefly modeled a red dress from the collection, appearing in the window and releasing the garments there. 50 designs including garments, bags, shoes and belts offered a range of choices from affordable to expensive. Clothing included tight jeans, one-shoulder mini dresses and T-shirts.

In early 2010, she designed handbags for Longchamp. Moss represented the Mango brand from 2011 to 2013. Moss, who saw Dutch illusionist Hans Klok on the BBC's The One Show in January 2012, advised his friend to make a reservation for London Fashion Week the following month. A magic aficionado and fan, Moss was planned to become Hans Klok's assistant. Moss rehearsed for three illusions, a levitation, split in half, and a guillotine illusion. However, she dropped out of school after suffering a temporary paralysis in her right arm due to nerve compression.
