Women can (literally) be heroes too: Who is Katniss Everdeen?

She is 16 years old in the first book and 17 years old in the 2nd and 3rd books. In the novel, Katniss participates in the Hunger Games in place of her sister Primrose. In this way, she leaves behind her home and Gale, whom she liked at the time but could only be friends with later, and crosses paths with Peeta Mellark, the son of a baker in District 12.

Katniss Everdeen is a fictional character and the protagonist of The Hunger Games trilogy written by American author Suzanne Collins.
