Kermit the Frog is a Muppet puppet. It was first revealed by its creator, Jim Henson, in 1955. This is Henson's most well-known and famous puppet character. Kermit was played by Jim Henson until his death in 1990 when Steve Whitmire took over the role.

The Kermit character has created countless television, film, stage, and online works throughout his 60 years in show business.

Kermit first appeared in 1955 as a five-minute puppet show on the TV series Sam and Friends. Kermit's prototype was made from an old coat of Henson's mother, and two ping-pong balls were used as eyes. His first description as a frog puppet was in 1969 with the movie Hey Cinderella.

Kermit the Frog is a Muppet character created and originally performed by Jim Henson in 1955. Kermit is the pragmatic everyman protagonist of numerous Muppet productions, most notably as the showrunner and host of the sketch comedy television series The Muppet Show and a featured role on Sesame Street.
