Olof Palme was born in Stockholm on January 31, 1927. Palme, the child of a wealthy family, was sent first to a private school and then to a boarding school.

Thanks to the scholarship he won, he had the opportunity to travel and get to know the USA. He returned to Sweden in 1948 and entered the Law Department of Stockholm University.

In early 1949, he worked in the foreign relations office of the Swedish Federation of Students' Unions. In 1952 he was appointed president of the Swedish Students' Union Federation. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1951.

Sven Olof Joachim Palme (30 January 1927 – 28 February 1986) was a Swedish politician and statesman who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and 1982 to 1986. Palme led the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 1969 until his assassination in 1986.

He was greatly influenced by the liberal-socialist ideas he encountered during his university years. In 1953, he started working as a secretary in the General Staff Intelligence Department. In the same year, he became Prime Minister Erlander's chief of staff.

He was elected as a deputy and entered the parliament in 1957. He served as Minister of State in 1963, Minister of Transport in 1965, and Minister of National Education and Culture in 1967.
