Robin Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, as the third son of Laura McLaurin (1920-2001), a former model, and Robert Fitzgerald Williams (1906-1987), who worked as a manager in Ford's Lincoln division.
Williams, who dropped out of his Political Sciences education in California, entered the Juilliard Conservatory with a full scholarship in 1973. After three years of acting training, he left the conservatory in 1976, following the advice of one of his teachers, actor John Houseman, to leave the school on the grounds that there was nothing left to teach him.
