One of the children's book authors that parents love very much: Who is Rocio Bonilla?

You are 41 years old, you have a 12-year history in the advertising industry, everything is fine with you and your children, and with a change of scissors, you are moving to the publishing industry as an illustrator. Inspired by your children; For example, you write stories and illustrate books about sibling fights, the excitement of a new sibling, the limitlessness of imagination, and family love. And boom! Today, you are an author and illustrator of children's books whose books have been translated into 17 different languages, whose every new project is eagerly awaited, who continues to produce, who has found her way and taken her place. How exciting, right?

Of course, this success is not something achieved as a result of a paragraph full of "lucky" events. From her first book, when she stepped into the publishing world in 2011, to her first story, which she wrote and illustrated herself; Let's take a look at the paths of Rocio Bonilla, who amazes us every time with all her books that have preserved their color, harmony and fun until today.

If Pedagogy education is added to the degree received in Fine Arts…

After graduating from Universidad de Barcelona with a degree in Fine Arts, Bonilla received a Pedagogy formation and worked as a designer, painter, and teacher. Of course, it should not be forgotten that she took illustration lessons from Ignasi Blanch and Roger Olmos.

“Throughout my professional career, I have been interested in painting, muralism (painting on a wall or similar stable surface), photography, pedagogy, and finally advertising, which caused me to stay away from crayons for 12 years.”

But then a change occurs in Bonilla's life. “Motherhood caused a turning point in my career.” says the author. Impressed by the children's imagination, she quit advertising and founded a company called "Erase una vez" (English translation is "once upon a time"). In this way, it takes its first step into the world of children by adding color to the areas designed for children with murals.

In 2011, she entered the publishing world as an illustrator.

“My children are my biggest critics and my biggest fans.”

I always put children's books from Southern European countries in a special place. Should I say authentic? I generally came across stories that were more casual, carefree, and definitely had artistic details in these countries. Rocio Bonilla's books have attracted me from the first moment I encountered them due to these features.

We see that Rocio Bonilla, who appeared as an author with the Cara De Pajaro picture book in 2014, has something to say about the children's world not only visually but also with words.

She is a unique writer/illustrator who has achieved her own style with her funny stories and inspiring sentences, as well as colors, lines, and paints, pushing the limits of her imagination every time. That's why it makes me want to buy and read every book whose name I see on the cover. I'm sure many readers who see the name Rocio Bonilla in this article are experiencing the same excitement. So perhaps she should thank her and her three children, who inspired her to change careers, for sharing this colorful world with us.

Rocio Bonilla's books, which blend and color topics such as sibling conflicts, big family situations, love of books, and chasing dreams, with a little family love, a little inspiration, and plenty of imagination, have been translated into more than 20 languages. Apart from European countries, we can count Turkey, Korea, China, Taiwan, and America among the countries that are fascinated by these stories.
