Visa's CEO appointed in 2023: Who is Ryan McInerney?

Visa announced in its statement that it has appointed its current president, Ryan McInerney, as CEO, effective February 1, 2023.

Alfred F Kelly Jr., who has been the CEO of the finance giant since 2016 and the chairman of the board since 2019, became the chairman of the board after this change.

McInerney has served as president since 2013, responsible for managing multiple departments at Visa, including customer service, product teams, and merchant teams. Kelly has 20 years of experience in the payments and banking industry, having previously served as CEO of consumer banking at JPMorgan Chase.

Kelly said of new CEO Mclerney: “I can't think of a better leader to continue positioning Visa at the center of money movement in increasingly innovative ways. Ryan has unlimited energy and passion for this job. “Additionally, in his role as president and as a close partner of mine for the past six years, he is intimately familiar with how Visa works and the exciting opportunities this industry offers.”

John F Lundgren, lead independent director and former chairman and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker, commented: “We are extremely grateful for Al's leadership over the last six years. Its deep industry expertise and forward-looking perspective have positioned Visa as a leader in payments in an evolving and increasingly challenging environment. Ryan's appointment reflects the Board's well-established and thoughtful succession plan. "With Ryan taking on this new role, Visa's success will continue to accelerate."

While Visa dominates the European market, MasterCard controls a large part of the American market.

Both Mastercard and Visa are companies based in the USA. Visa was created by Bank of America in 1958. This idea was put forward by employees within the company.
