Ryan Rodney Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976 in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father, James Chester Reynolds, was a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman before retiring from the police and working as a food wholesaler. His mother, Tamara Lee, worked in retail.

Reynolds has been involved in acting since the age of thirteen. He graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in 1994, where he went with actor Joshua Jackson.
