Little known in the industry but promising a lot: Who is Seán McGirr?
Being a creative director is a very important position for brands. This critical seat of the big fashion houses always sees great competition, and the person who will sit is eagerly awaited.
Each fashion house develops and reflects many elements from its historical founder's childhood memories, hobbies, personality, and ideology. Creative directors, thanks to their designer identities and the education they received, are storytellers who connect the brand heritage to the present moment and weave new narratives in the light of archives...
For this reason, brands need not only new designs but also personalities that will guide their brand and create a culture in the long term. In an effort to stay up to date, brands analyze their target audiences in detail and determine their needs with the help of algorithms.
Due to the pressure of consumers who expect constant innovation in the market, creative director appointments in the fashion industry resemble a game of musical chairs.
Alexander McQueen's new creative director
The industry was wondering about the fate of the fashion house after designer Sarah Burton, who personally worked with and took over the baton from the genius designer Alexander McQueen, who passed away at an early age, announced that she would resign from her 13-year creative director position. Gianfilippo Testa, CEO of the Alexander McQueen fashion house, announced the appointment of Seán McGirr as creative director, who will develop his legacy and bring a creative interpretation with his experience, personality, and energy.
Originally from Dublin, McGirr started his career at Burberry after studying at Central Saint Martins University. He later worked in Uniqlo's creative offices under the management of Christophe Lemaire. Between 2018 and 2020, he was Dries Van Noten's women's clothing designer. Most recently, he worked with Jonathan Anderson as the ready-to-wear manager at JW Anderson.
McGirr is a relatively unknown name, but his diverse roles and market expertise promise the brand a well-rounded design and business sensibility. Previously created by the Kering luxury group; Considering the success of the unknown/non-famous creative director (Alessandro Michele), we hope that McQueen under the direction of McGirr will give us pleasure in its new form.
